How Do You Stack Up?
By Edwin Tan (c) 2013
Ed's Rant does a bit of health promotion and graphic design. I worked together with a client to create this poster for their research project. The poster is to be displayed in community pharmacies to encourage patients to have a diabetes risk assessment performed by a pharmacist. Let's hope it generates some interest from patients!

So Hot Right Now
By Edwin Tan (c) 2013
Here is the cartoon printed on postcards to be distributed at the upcoming Open Day:
Below is both views of the postcard:
The top is the front side of the postcard with my cartoon. The bottom is the reverse side of the post card with information for candidates.
I had fun creating this! Here's the other design I made:

Most Trusted Profession
By Edwin Tan (c) 2013
Woo hoo! This cartoon was published in Alchemy magazine. Here's a link to the article.
This cartoon was inspired by this poll about Australia's most trusted professions, a subsequent poll, and my confusion as to why pharmacies stock ear candles, homeopathy and balance bracelets.

Siri-ously?
By Edwin Tan (c) 2013
First they take photos of the whiteboard with their iPhones. Next they're asking Siri to perform extemporaneous dispensing. Gah...students.

Interprofessional Collaboration
By Edwin Tan (c) 2013
Interprofessional, interdisciplinary, team-based, collaborative, person-centred care.
This is not how to do it.
I drew this comic a while ago, probably during one of the "low" periods in my PhD. Enjoy!

An Easter Cautionary Tale
Mrs Bunny, unable to cope with the loss of her partner, eventually turns to drink and later commits suicide. Junior is placed into foster care. His foster parents are abusive and he runs away to live on the streets. He turns to a life of hard drugs and prostitution . He dies alone in a gutter, his final words being: "Why, daddy? Why?"
Tragic.
And all this could have been avoided by verifying the name and address of the patient. Or even some simple counselling about the prescription product.
Sigh.
Anyway, wishing my readers a happy and safe Easter break!

Bladder Training
Oh, undergrads. If they're not talking, whinging or breaking lab equipment, they're interrupting your class to announce they will pee in their pants unless you let them go to the toilet which you already let them do ten minutes beforehand but they were too stupid to know where the toilet was on this floor and instead of going to the ones downstairs returned to the class without going.
And even after you told them to use the toilets downstairs they still refused to, saying they could "hold on".
Which they obviously couldn't do because they had to interrupt your entire class five minutes before the end of it so they could announce their need to go to the toilet. Again.
The future of pharmacy indeed.

Marking 1st Year Exams - Where An Understanding of the English Language is Optional
"List four factors that influence dose form selection"
- Weather the drug is advaliabe in that dose form
- If their are staff administrating the dose eg. paternal forms
- If an omediate effects is required eg. parental vs oral
- The pathological status of the patient. eg if patient is unconsciounce or volmiting can't take oral. Takes paternal form.
Ironically this person got full marks.
Some comics on exam marking (by the talented Jorge Cham) here, here and here.
The future of pharmacy is bleak my friends. Oh, so bleak...

Undergrads
Yes...it's weird being back at uni. I feel old. All these pesky undergrads with their skinny/ saggy jeans, manga haircuts, iPhones, online lectures and Facebook. Heck, I remember the good ol' days of "Friendster". Remember "Friendster"? *crickets chirping in background*. Gah! Kids nowadays!
Oh, to be an undergrad again!

Procrastination, Thy Name is "Facebook"
The other reason being drawing cartoons.
So yeah, I went along to one of those introductory workshop things they have for new PhD students, and the speaker said that a PhD takes on average seven years to complete. SEVEN years.
Fingers crossed I finish before I'm thirty. *crosses fingers*
