In a country where one is constantly bombarded with messages encouraging courteous and polite behaviour - from posters on buses to large statues in the street - you'd think something as simple as saying "thank you" when someone holds the door open for you would be an instinct. You'd be wrong. Though, having said that, the door being held open was that belonging to the tourist office and the person entering was probably a tourist. And probably an Eastern European tourist at that coz they're hopeless at things like common decency and manners. Bless 'em (yeh...that's for another rant).
But thank goodness for Singa the Courtesy Lion. Since 1982, this ever so friendly king of the concrete jungle has been educating Singaporeans on how to be polite and respectful citizens. Rawr. I just had to have a photo with him:
